The English MA at Georgetown

For the first time this year, the English MA program at Georgetown offered a capstone option as an alternative to the traditional thesis paper.  I chose to pursue the capstone project as it is more suitable for my career goals.  The learning goals of the capstone project are as follows:

"Students who chose the capstone option will develop a culminating project in which they consider the trajectory of their work in the program. Students need to determine the appropriate purpose, audience and genre for these projects.

In the project students are expected to:

1)  Define the primary point of coherence of their curricular work by reflecting on previous coursework and anticipating post graduate opportunities
2)  Synthesize and ask new research questions about existing work
3)  Conduct further research in order to substantially revise or expand a current project or projects for a new audience
4)  Use creative and critical methods to transform curricular ideas into new forms
5)  Produce an electronic portfolio in which they demonstrate mastery of conventions and possibilities of a web-based project by taking advantage of a variety of media (writing, video, audio, visual, etc) as appropriate
6)  Connect curricular work with extracurricular pursuits and goals
"
