The Process

I have learned especially through my Approaches to Teaching Writing, Approaches to Teaching Literature, and Capstone Seminar courses the incredible value of teaching learning as a process, not a product. [quote from yancey and eynon here].  In an attempt to adhere to the very approach that I intend to implement in my own classrooms, I offer the following reflection on my own learning and creating process for this Capstone Project:

Inquiry and Analysis

For this project, I chose a subject matter that not only reflects the personal interests I have developed during my time at Georgetown, but also addresses an issue that is relevant to the field of contemporary post-secondary pedagogy.  I find that because the literature that exists on teaching student veterans is limited and just beginning to emerge, I found meaningful ways to synthesize my experiences with the work of others in a new and significant way.

Platform

After weeks of watching video tutorials and building a site on wordpress.com, I had to reassess my platform and decide to either press on or cut my losses by choosing another platform altogether.  Upon the urging of many of my classmates, who sang praises of the user-friendly features of wix.com, I finally decided to start fresh, despite my reluctance to place hours of newly acquired Wordpress knowledge aside.  I am so pleased with my decision to make the switch, as the experience working on Wix has been much more pleasant, efficient, and intuitive, and I am ever reminded of the revision process that happens in writing, which also is so present in the building of eportfolios.
